Homeownership Works  

HOW Cambridge-00850:  FY22, $3M, Home Ownership Works (HOW) pilot program. The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) awarded the City of Cambridge with $3 million in grant funds under the Home Ownership Works (HOW) pilot program for the Predevelopment, New Construction, Marketing, and Sales of (4) new affordable homes on Douglas Street sold at market rate and 10 new single-family homes to be sold at 120% of AMI on Chesapeake Court and School House Lane Subdivision and is expected to begin in the Spring of 2025. 

Homeowner Helper

Special Projects, $500K, Homeowner Helper Program is designed to provide seniors (age 50 and above) with financial assistance to offset the cost for critical structural, mechanical, and façade repairs needed in their homes. Structural issues include risks to life, health, and property such as storm-damaged roofs, leaking pipes, and unsafe concrete steps. Mechanical concerns involve environmental conditions impacting appliances and accessibility, while Façade problems encompass visible damage like cracked siding and broken windows. Repairs range from $1,000 to $15,000 with a 0% interest loan repayable at transfer of sale or 36-month installment repayment plan with flexible terms.

HUD-Lead Reduction Capacity Building 

MDLCB 0009-24:  FY26, $1.8M.  HUD- Lead Hazard Reduction grant funds work to identify strategies necessary to develop and implement a comprehensive lead-based paint hazard reduction plan.   Objectives include engaging in partnerships essential to successfully administering a sustainable Lead-based Paint Hazard Reduction Program, increase certified lead services provider pool through workforce development efforts, and increase public awareness and education regarding lead-based paint hazards and lead poisoning prevention.

Land Bank Feasibility

OAG-TAG-2024-Cambridge-00779:  1 Year, $17,500, Land Bank Feasibility Grant awarded in June of 2024, from the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development. This one-year grant aims to support the development of a comprehensive business plan that will guide the implementation of the Land Bank Authority of Cambridge (LBAC). In addition to this grant, $1 million from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds have been allocated to capitalize the land bank in the City's FY24 budget.

MD-22-CD-9

2 Year, $2.6M MD-22-CD-9 (CDBG-Vertical Construction) of new homes on the green space areas bordering Chesapeake Court, School House Lane, and Waugh Cemetery.
