Now in its seventh year, the Cambridge Façade Improvement Program has helped homeowners and business owners improve the appearance of their buildings to increase property values and contribute to a positive appearance to city residents and visitors. This effort is funded by a Community Legacy grant through the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development and administered by the City of Cambridge’s office of Economic and Community Development.

The program has tackled everything from small porch repairs to large, high profile commercial projects, offering up to 50% of eligible expenses, not to exceed $7,500. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, but commercial applications and projects showing particular need and community significance can sometimes receive preference.

“As public confidence around the Façade Improvement Program continues to build, we’re seeing it reach a diverse set of projects,” said Brandon Hesson, Associate Director of Economic Development for the City of Cambridge. “This is a creative way to help ease the burden on certain home improvement and building maintenance issues for businesses and residential homeowners.”

To be eligible, properties must be located within the designated Sustainable Community boundary.
