In accordance with COMAR 26.08.10.08, the Department of Public Services is notifying the public of a sanitary sewer overflow that occurred on 2/20/25 between 11:00 am and 3:30 pm as a result of heavy rainfall.

- Water Street near intersection with Choptank Ave
- Water St. at intersection with Vue De L’eau
It is estimated that approximately 5,000 gallons of a mixture of untreated sanitary waste and stormwater were discharged into The Choptank River.
Health and Safety Advisory:
The public is advised to avoid contact with the affected waters and any standing water near the overflow location. Swimming, fishing, or other direct contact activities should be avoided in Choptank River, from Long Wharf Park to Oakley St. until 2/22/2025. There is no impact to the public drinking water supply.
Response Measures:
- The overflow was reported to the Maryland Department of the Environment and the Dorchester County Health Department.
- The affected areas have been cleaned and signs have been posted to notify the public of the overflow and potential health risks.
