City Manager Sandra Tripp-Jones advised the City Council in closed session that she would retire June 30, 2018 to spend more time with her family here and in California.  The Council responded by immediately approving an extension of her contract to that date.  Ms. Tripp-Jones thanked the Council and the community for the opportunity to serve and promised to focus on Council’s priorities for the remainder of her tenure.

  Ms. Tripp-Jones undertook the job as Cambridge’s first City Manager in November 2015.  Her prior work in City Management was with the City of Santa Barbara, California.  She also worked for the International City/County Management Association in their International Development Division. 

  In Cambridge, she has introduced a new budget process and document, facilitated of City Council goals, implemented several cost-cutting measures, and galvanized a cooperative working relationship with Dorchester County.  Over the next eight months, she intends to focus on housing revitalization, Sailwinds predevelopment, the hiring of a permanent Police Chief, and the preparation of the FY 2019 proposed budget.

  Mayor Victoria Jackson-Stanley stated that she will lead the Council’s search for a City Manager with the help of a Council. Over the next month she will make more specific decisions on the recruitment process and schedule with intent to fill the position with someone who can continue to respond to Council’s priorities.

   “I appreciate Ms. Tripp-Jones’ work and her dedication which have brought us to this positive stage in Cambridge’s development and how she has invigorated management and staff, inspiring positive change in the organization,” said Ms. Jackson-Stanley.
