Mayor declares Snow Emergency
Cambridge Mayor Lajan Cephas-Bey issued a snow emergency declaration on Friday, January 23, 2026. According to the declaration, because the city is projected to receive beginning Saturday, January 24, 2026 and ending Monday, January 26, 2026 approximately 1-2 feet of snow, sleet and freezing rain that will make vehicular travel conditions dangerous and difficult, the Mayor deemed it necessary and appropriate to declare a snow emergency.
Declaring a snow emergency means the following:
Mayor Cephas-Bey will serve as the chief administrator of all forces during the snow emergency. In the Mayor’s absence, the Director of Public Works, Wayne Suggs, will serve in this capacity. If both are unavailable, Chief of Police Justin Todd will serve.
Director Suggs is responsible for the plowing and removal of snow.
Chief Todd will be responsible for the movement of traffic and the removal of vehicles from snow emergency routes.
The prohibition for parking on snow emergency routes is effective 12 pm Saturday, January 24, 2026.
The City, its agents, servants and employees are empowered to do all lawful acts and implement all lawful procedures considered necessary to prevent and alleviate the effects of the snow emergency.
This declaration is in effect until it is terminated by a subsequent declaration.
