The Cambridge Police Department and the City of Cambridge would like to remind citizens that it is unsafe to be on any ice-covered bodies of water in and around Cambridge and Dorchester County. As it may look and feel like it is frozen enough to be safe to walk on, there could still be a huge risk of falling through thin ice into the frigid water where it would be extremely hard for first responders to safely retrieve a person from the water in the current conditions.
Please stay off the ice. If a pet happens to wander onto an area covered in ice and cannot safely exit, contact emergency responders to come and assist with retrieving them instead of putting yourselves at risk by calling 911.
See attached photos that were captured the morning of 2-2-26 by the Cambridge Police Department Drone Unit of some of the waterfront areas around Cambridge. In the photos you can see there are open areas in the ice where it is not safe.
