Fairchild Properties, LLC will celebrate the grand opening of Starbucks with a ribbon cutting celebration at noon on October 31, 2018, shortly before unveiling muralist Michael Rosato's recent work Marsh Song, located on the Cambridge Marketplace entrance, facing the recently re-opened Taco Bell restaurant. The days' festivities will end with a free, family-friendly Halloween fireworks show at 8:20 p.m.

The opening of Starbucks marks the first time the global coffee chain has entered the Cambridge market, and demonstrates the confidence large corporations have in our home here on the Eastern Shore. There will be free coffee giveaways for those in attendance.

Rosato is a nationally-renowned artist based locally here in Cambridge. Fairchild Properties wanted to pay homage to the rich and diverse ecosystem, which so many on the Eastern Shore have dedicated their lives to protect and love. Rosato eloquently captured this natural progression of the seasons from spring to summer and fall to winter through Marsh Song, which provides a quiet escape from the bustling traffic on Route 50. Many have come to watch as Rosato worked diligently throughout the past several months. Marsh Song plays a different tune to each individual, and has been given a personal meaning to owner/developer Charlie Fairchild and family:

“We wanted to have some fun and give Michael a chance to express what the Eastern Shore means to him," said Fairchild. "For me, the lady bugs represent our grandchildren; the hummingbird, my wife Sue; the White Perch, my grandson’s first catch; and the wood ducks were chosen by a local Cambridge hunting guide and friend. We hope everyone will come, sit and listen to the fountains while Marsh Song speaks to them.”

Lastly, the Halloween Fireworks are set to begin at 8:20 pm on October 31st. Fairchild Properties chose to celebrate with fireworks, because fireworks on Halloween are new and exciting, and bring everyone together at Cambridge Marketplace. There will be seven heart-shaped fireworks at the end.

"Those are for you, Cambridge," said Fairchild, who also thanked the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay for its partnership in the fireworks display.

“The City of Cambridge continues to be a place where exciting ideas have a chance to come true, as well as a place which can attract the world’s most recognizable brands,” said Cambridge Mayor Victoria Jackson-Stanley. “You’ll be able to enjoy a world-class cup of coffee from Starbucks, celebrate the work of an incredible local artist, and watch the Eastern Shore’s only fireworks display on Halloween night.”
