FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

City of Cambridge Set to Host Salisbury University Students for Five-Year Update to 2016 Housing Quality Study

CAMBRIDGE, MD ( June 22, 2021) -- Beginning July I, the City of Cambridge will host students from Salisbury University who will conduct updates to the 2016 Housing Quality Study, originally conducted in Ward 3 of the City of Cambridge.
The data collected as a result of the 2016 Housing Quality Study, as well as follow-up work completed in 2017 and 2018 that performed similar research in the City of Cambridge's other wards, has helped guide the City of Cambridge in revitalization efforts in historically marginalized areas of our community. The Study has been key in partnering with the State of Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), both in requesting funds through DHCD programs and in planning the use of those funds for community
revitalization and reinvestment. Though housing studies have been conducted in sixteen other Eastern Shore municipalities by Salisbury University students, Cambridge has been the leader in taking the information provided and utilizing it as a tool to support funding requests and to guide community reinvestment efforts.

The Housing Quality Study is being administered by the Eastern Shore Regional GIS Cooperative (ESRGC), an outreach entity of Salisbury University, and is being conducted by students from Salisbury University's Department of Geography and Geosciences. Funding for the Study is via the Mid-Shore Regional Council's (MSRC) Rural Maryland Prosperity Investment FWld (RMPIF) funding, with those funds distributed by the Rural Maryland Council (RMC). City of Cambridge Mayor Andrew Bradshaw serves as the City's current MSRC representative.
