This workgroup will have five (5) members representing the wards of City and will be appointed by City Council.

Purpose & Duties:

The Historic Municipal Building located on Gay Street has been vacant for about 15 years.  A priority for City Council is to renovate the building and move City Hall services back into the space.  Preliminary planning has identified an opportunity to create public space inside and outside of the building.  

This ad hoc workgroup will provide suggestions regarding the use of those public spaces – this will include space on the first floor of the building as well as the adjoining, City-owned parking lots.  Some initial ideas to be considered: museum with exhibits of the City’s history, flexible exhibition space to be used by non-profit groups, holiday train garden, flexible meeting and event space, small park, etc.  Discussion will weigh the pros and cons of each idea, logistics in executing on it, access and management of the spaces, etc.
